Job Summary

The Technical Writer will be assigned one or more company developed programs, and will produce user documentation and eLearning content throughout the software-development phase of the project.

The ideal candidate must display excellent written and oral skills with demonstrated interpersonal and organization abilities. A candidate for this position must be able to work in a varied, fast paced environment. Flexibility and tolerance is a necessity.

Major Activities To Ensure Achievement of Key Results and Deliverables

  • After interviewing upstream and downstream clients, subject matter experts, and programmers, technical writer must assess user needs and then identify the most effective user-support medium; Must be able to initiate projects by researching EXPRESS documentation and by learning to use preliminary versions of the programs; If assigned multiple projects, technical writer must identify software changes and produce the required documentation before each version is launched
  • Maintain and enhance existing technical documentation for all assigned corporate applications
  • Understands standard systems development lifecycle processes and applies company methodology effectively on client engagements to meet documentation deadlines
  • The technical writer will not be a member of a document-development team; He or she will be a lone writer, this means that all aspects of the document development, help-authoring, and web-based training disciplines must be mastered
  • Candidate must be a team player and willing to teach and to learn

Your Qualifications

| Required |

  • 5+ years' of experience
  • Bachelor degree in Technical Writing, Technical Communication, or Computer Science, MIS, or related field with certificate in Technical Writing/Communication

  • Ability to analyze complex network arrangements and other technical subjects and to distill what he or she has learned into clear and concise user documentation
  • Ability to gather and organize information
  • Ability to manage proprietary information
  • Ability to outline and develop multi-chapter books

  • Ability to meet deadlines-getting the job done

  • Ability to work with general style guides (i.e., The Chicago Manual of Style, Manual of Style for Technical Publications, etc.)
  • Ability to depict complex network arrangements using technical illustration software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Corel Designer, or if necessary, Microsoft Visio)-producing effective line drawings
  • Ability and inclination to use project information in a legal and ethical manner
  • Ability to mine information from Society for Technical Communication (STC) periodicals and Web sites--STC membership is strongly recommended
