Ovation TV Launches Video-On-Demand Service March 1
Includes High Definition, Local Content Across all of Network’s Program Genres
Santa Monica, California - February 28, 2008 - Ovation TV, the only network devoted exclusively to art and personal creativity, will launch its free video-on-demand (VOD) service March 1. Announcement of the service being unfolded by the network was made by Ron Garfield, COO, Ovation TV.
The VOD offering will include a growing library of high definition programming as well as local content produced by Ovation TV or obtained through the network’s partnerships with local cultural institutions and arts education organizations. Additional programming will cross all of the network’s program categories (music, performance, art, film, people).
Among the initial local and HD programming available are the Los Angeles and New York episodes of Ovation TV’s original series “Art & the City.” Other local programming includes content from the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington, D.C.; Brooklyn (NY) Stages of Learning; and Arts Wisconsin.
“Local VOD is one of the key components of our programming and distribution strategy,” said Garfield. “As we continue to expand our distribution and establish new partnerships this content will grow and increasingly enhance the connection between our customers and their local communities. Our HD VOD offering is a natural progression for Ovation TV programming as this category becomes increasingly important to distributors.”
Going forward, included in the local offerings will be programming emanating from Ovation TV’s recently announced unprecedented roster of partnerships with leading cultural institutions and arts education organizations. The partnerships are a cornerstone of Ovation TV’s strategy of becoming a multi-platform destination – a gathering place – for audiences passionate about art and creativity and include agreements with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; The Harlem School of the Arts; LA Opera; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art, New York; New Orleans Center for Creative Arts Institute; and P.S. ARTS, Los Angeles.
As part of the VOD effort, Ovation TV has reached an agreement with TVN Entertainment, the world’s largest television On Demand company, to provide encoding, distribution and asset management services. Under the deal, Ovation will be able to utilize TVN’s full suite of services including TVN’s interactive metadata management tool, iPRI and its Emmy-nominated advanced asset management system, ADONISS. TVN manages 8000 hours of VOD programming per month for over 100 Cable, Telco and Broadband partners, and is the leading single-source management and distribution solution for VOD.
The announcement of the VOD comes on the heels of the network’s recent acquisition of IMF Network from Universal Music Group, which, in addition to growing the network’s program library, also increased the network’s coverage to 25 million subscribers nationally, a five-fold increase in homes reached since the network re-launched less than one year ago. Ovation TV is the fastest growing cable television network.
